'Tis the Season

It's that time of year to spread the holiday cheer. It’s the perfect time to share love, hope, peace, and the gift of giving to home, family and others.

A perfect example of the "beauty of giving", comes from my childhood days back in Barbados. As kids, we all looked forward to one special lady, "Auntie Olga", who understood the true meaning of "giving" . She would drive through our neighborhoods spreading the holiday cheer, dressed in a Santa outfit, sharing gifts and candy to families.

These were good times, happy times, knowing that she always
delivered and never forgot about us. We didn't personally know her, but loved her for who she was and what she represented in our lives - excitement, laughter, love, sharing, caring and a sense of feeling worthwhile.

Here is a poem "Dame Olga Lopes-Seale" wrote about GIVING:

"At this time of giving- Give to your enemy forgiveness
Give to your opponent tolerance
Give to your friend your heart
Give to your child a good example
Give to your parents deference
Give to everybody sunny smiles.
Giving open doors and hearts and makes affection glow.
Giving stirs fires of friendship when they're burning low.
All too often through our lives there runs a selfish theme. Thoughts and hopes are concentrates on one's own pet scheme.
Then Christmas comes and turns the mind from our self-centered ways.
We have to open hearts and purses in the festive days.
We have to think of others, and of self a little less,
Choosing presents, writing letters, giving happiness.”

  1. Hi there, great post. So many people have such fond memories of Auntie Olga who truly is a treasure. Thought you might like to know she had a fall and broke her hip last week but is reportedly recovering.
