BAJAN FUSION: Entrepreneurship and Leadership
Conceptualizing Bajan Fusion was very easy, however the actual execution proved to be a difficult task. Nonetheless, I was up for the challenge as it was my first major project. Experience has taught me, that when you believe strongly in anything , it is important to stand firm, keep fighting and work hard towards making "it" a reality despite the odds/obstacles.
Despite my desire to present the entire project to you, time constraints do not allow me to do so. However, I wanted to focus on an inspiring and dynamic individual who got a glimpse of the concept, liked it and was willing to offer his support .
The 2012 Bajan Fusion Ambassador and Performing Artiste:
KIRK BROWN- Award-winning Barbadian singer, music producer, deejay, model and businessman.
THE CONNECTION
1. On Saturday May 19th, 2012 I went on Kirk's Facebook page, got his business email address and sent him an introductory email @ 9:28 AM.
2. At 9:55 AM, he responded via email and said he "loved the concept". He mentioned that he was "recording for cropover, and could we chat tomorrow?" and to “count him in”. I responded with excitement and he then followed-up with his contact details.
3. On Sunday morning May 20th, we spoke, had good conversation, I spoke about relevant benefits to him as an artist, our intentions now and in the future. Like any business person, he questioned, he challenged, and expressed his sentiments. In the end, we were in agreement and ready to move forward.

From then ‘til now we've stayed in touch via cell/telephone, Gmail, Blackberry Messenger, and we even communicated while he was in Miami and London.
Talking about staying connected!
We now have less than 2 weeks to go before Bajan Fusion 2012 kicks off on June 25th, and Kirk and I have already finalized what he will require and what we will need to do as it relates to his performance.
I couldn't have asked for a better first "artiste" experience and relationship.
Be on the listen out and look out for us in the media coming soon!
THE EXPERIENCE
As an HR Professional first, I was most impressed with Kirk Brown's:
1. High level of professionalism
2. Flexibility

BAJAN FUSION PROJECT
Hello M.A.D Skills Blogger Friends et al,
I wanted to share with
you an idea I conceptualized back in New York called BAJAN FUSION, which is now being developed as my ‘First
Big Barbados Project’.
On December 9th, 2011, I registered the company “Artistik Flava” in Barbados, with the
intent of contributing to the fusion of Barbadian talent. The mission of my
company is to offer creative, consulting and educational services and solutions
to individuals and businesses, while being a catalyst of change through the empowerment
and development of ‘borderless communities’.
Bajan Fusion 2012, Pon De Flo is
just the beginning of this passion.
Six months of non-stop
networking, relationship building and proposal writing are a few of the many
things keeping me busy. It’s been such a fun, challenging, rewarding and learning
experience, but the work doesn’t end here, there are still some lose ends to tie, I's to dot and T's to cross.
I am forever grateful to my family, friends, professional and social networks who have been and are still very supportive and those who are helping to make this event possible.
My hope is that you can
all share in THE EXPERIENCE!
If you’re thinking
about a vacation for 2012 and haven’t planned a trip, Barbados “Beautiful
Island In The Sun” is the place to be. Please feel free to connect with me for
further details at bajanfusion@gmail.com.
- Bajan Fusion/Pon de FLO dates are June 25th - June 30th, 2012.
- Pon de FLO comes back for Cropover/Kadooment (Carnival): August 1st - August 8th, 2012
FUN FACT: People from Barbados are Barbadian and are called Bajan
in slang. If you were born of Bajan parents outside of Barbados, especially the
US you are called a Bajan Yankee.
If you’re on Facebook, please visit (search for) Bajan Fusion and Pon de FLO and LIKE the page.
Join the Bajan Fusion Group on Facebook. A fun and supportive community! Thanks much!

COURAGE: The Terrific 6!
On January 31, 2012, I attended the Barbados Entrepreneurship Foundation’s Forum entitled, "Row2Recovery- The
Atlantic crossing"- a story of inspiration and courage. Despite the
injuries, against all odds, where a team of six phenomenal men accomplished
a task bigger than themselves.

Situation/Mission: “To
help wounded servicemen and women to go beyond injury and achieve the
extraordinary.”
Task: Launch
a campaign “to shine a spotlight on people with disabilities and challenge
misconceptions about what life is like for an injured soldier and their family.”
Action: “An Epic
3000 mile voyage across the Atlantic in a rowing boat to Barbados.”
Result/Mission
accomplished: Arrived at Port St. Charles, Barbados after 52 days and
greeted by family, friends, loved ones, the press and other parties.
They are truly STARS!
Not only was it a wow moment for me, I was humbled and inspired by their stories, experiences and perspective. It was such an honor to meet such amazing people.
Damian McKinney, CEO of McKinney Rogers said it best, "They are ordinary people doing extraordinary things."
It’s a journey one can only imagine and very difficult to understand, unless one have traveled that same path. We can however, appreciate and respect great service and a job well done. Simply Epic!
Advice & Tips gained from this extraordinary panel:
"Even people with the resources to help will question if what you're doing is possible."
"Belief makes a difference, dream big!"
"Find something you truly believe in, commit to it and then times that by 10." ~Alex Mackensie
"In life it's the people you love & the ones that love you that are the most important things."
"Never think you are worse off than anybody." ~Rory Mackensie
"Perspective does not allow you to have a down day." ~Will Dixon
"If you have the right people who work well together, you can overcome anything."
"Success in a decision, a state of mind, you can overcome
the obstacles." ~Ed Janvrin
"Have the motivation and passion to keep going. Have a plan, work hard and don't give up." ~Carl Anstey
"You have a massive task, split it down, confirm accountability, move in and take control." ~Neil Heritage
"Have the motivation and passion to keep going. Have a plan, work hard and don't give up." ~Carl Anstey
"You have a massive task, split it down, confirm accountability, move in and take control." ~Neil Heritage
I hope you are inspired by their honest and
motivating words. This message is not only for entrepreneurs, but for anyone
with a passion to achieve a specific goal(s).
Peace & Love

WHERE ARE YOU TODAY?
January 2012 is coming to a close and I challenge you to think about your life's direction.
How far you’ve come and what you have accomplished since the start of the year?
Resolutions were made, some were broken, while others have stayed the course.
Have you taken the time to sit back and reflect on your progress thus far? If no, this is the perfect time to get focus and back in line again. The good news is that, if you’re living, breathing and reading this post you still have time to make the necessary changes and get moving towards your goals.
This journey is a mental, physical and spiritual battle and you have to be ready to handle what will come your way.
Here are 10 tips to get you started:
1. Assess your current situation. Figure out where you truly want to be and what you’re going to do to get there.
2. Appreciate the “process” in reaching your goals. You can look back and be thankful.
3. Take responsibility for your actions. Know that there is always a positive or negative consequence.
4. Admit your faults and emphasize your strengths.
5. You’re human: briefly give yourself permission to release your feelings and get focus again.
6. Be aware of distractions and work on reducing or eliminating them.
7. You’re worth it! Don’t apologize for your worth, continue to maximize on your strengths.
8. We were not made perfect, so don’t expect to be that all the time.
9. Just shine! Be who you are intended to be.
10. When you feel like you’re going off course, repeat the above.
Happy Life of Adventure & Discovery! Stay on the path!
~CPC
